On 11 November 2025, at the 9th National Security Days, the President of the Euro-Atlantic Council of Slovenia, Prof. Dr. Iztok Prezelj, received the Recognition for Contribution to the Development of National Security, awarded by the IVK – Institute for Security Culture. This is one of the central professional recognitions in the field of security in the Republic of Slovenia.
The recognition is presented alongside other important awards in the field of security and protection, including Soldier of the Year, Police Officer of the Year, Prison Officer of the Year, Emergency Medical Responder of the Year, Security Officer of the Year, Local Security Ambassador, the Best Volunteer Fire Brigade, as well as awards for contributions to military defence and other areas of the national security system.
Justification for the Award (IVK – Institute for Security Culture, 2025):
The Recognition for Contribution to the Development of National Security awarded to Prof. Dr. Iztok Prezelj is based on his outstanding professional work, dedication, and significant contributions that have had a profound impact on the improvement and strengthening of national security in the Republic of Slovenia. Through his long-term research and professional activities, Prof. Dr. Prezelj has contributed to the development of a strategic understanding of security challenges, the advancement of security policies, and the strengthening of national security capacities. Through his expertise and innovative solutions, he has helped improve procedures for threat detection and response, which is crucial for ensuring stability, sovereignty, and the protection of critical infrastructure. His work has contributed to the development of effective security systems that enhance preparedness for emergencies and strengthen cooperation among relevant institutions. In addition, he has been actively involved in educational activities, transferring his knowledge to younger generations of national security experts. In view of all the above, Prof. Dr. Iztok Prezelj has rightfully received the recognition of the IVK – Institute for Security Culture for his exceptional contribution to the development of national security.
