The President of the Youth Section of the Euro-Atlantic Council of Slovenia, Matic Kosirnik, was a panelist at the international online discussion “Youth Perspectives on Disinformation”, held on February 26, 2025. The event was organized by Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) in collaboration with the University of Helsinki, YATA Belgium, and YATA Türkiye.
Matic presented the Slovenian youth perspective on disinformation and its impact on society. He focused on the role of social media, media polarization, geopolitical influences (Russia and the Western Balkan region), domestic political dynamics, and the broader security and societal consequences of disinformation.
The panel was moderated by Dr. Demir Murat Seyrek (Professor at Brussels School of Governance – VUB), with speakers including Ms Beaudine Verhoek (Data Insights and Information Threats Section, NATO PDD) and representatives of the YATA network from Belgium, Italy, Canada, Portugal, Spain, Türkiye, and Norway, alongside the President of YATA International.
The discussion highlighted key challenges and solutions in countering disinformation and emphasized the role of youth in strengthening societal resilience against fake and manipulative information.
