From April 4 to 6, 2025, Matic Kosirnik, President of the Youth Section of the Euro-Atlantic Council of Slovenia (YATA Slovenia), and Tara Miler, member of the Youth Section, took part in the 20th edition of the Nordic Security Conference (NorSec 2025) held in Oslo, Norway.
The conference, titled “Shaping the Future of Transatlantic Cooperation and European Security”, was organised by YATA Norway and brought together over 150 participants from more than 25 countries. Key topics included: transatlantic cooperation, EU and NATO defence policy, the war in Ukraine, developments in the Arctic and Middle East, and the impact of AI and disinformation on security and democracy.
Matic Kosirnik participated as a panellist on the roundtable “Truth vs. Tech: AI and Disinformation”, where they explored how generative AI amplifies the spread of fake content and how democratic societies can respond. In his intervention, Kosirnik stressed that democracy is not just under pressure — it’s under algorithmic assault. He emphasised that at the heart of democracy lies informed consent, and when facts are distorted or manipulated, consent becomes meaningless. He added that AI won’t kill democracy, but our indifference might — highlighting the need to empower the younger generation as a vital layer of defence through digital literacy and strategic communication.
Participation at NorSec also served as an opportunity to network with national chapters of the YATA Network, exchange good practices, and strengthen cooperation in the field of international security.
