The Euro-Atlantic Council of Slovenia, also known as ATA Slovenia, is a voluntary, non-profit, and non-governmental expert association founded in 1993. Its core mission is to promote peace, security, and democratic stability in the Euro-Atlantic area and the Western Balkans through education, research, publishing, and public debate.

Since its establishment, the Council has been dedicated to systematically raising awareness among the Slovenian public about the importance of the Republic of Slovenia’s active participation in international organisations whose primary purpose is to safeguard peace, security, and stable international cooperation. Through its work, the Council contributes to a well-informed public discourse, strengthens Slovenia’s strategic culture, and reinforces the country’s role within the Euro-Atlantic community.

The Youth Section of the Euro-Atlantic Council of Slovenia, also known as YATA Slovenia, operates within the Council and represents a key pillar for the inclusion of young professionals in its substantive, educational, and international activities.

Our Goals and Objectives

The following objectives guide the Council’s activities:

    • educating and raising public awareness about challenges and solutions in the field of international peace and security;
    • analysing key processes, policies, and the functioning of international security organisations, with a particular focus on Euro-Atlantic integration;
    • supporting the active and responsible role of the Republic of Slovenia within NATO, the European Union, and other Euro-Atlantic institutions;
    • cooperating with like-minded organisations in Slovenia working in the fields of peace, security, and societal resilience;
    • networking with international partner organisations, particularly members of the Atlantic Treaty Association (ATA);
    • organising conferences, expert discussions, roundtables, seminars, study visits, and public lectures;
    • publishing expert and general-interest literature in the fields of international relations, security, defence, and strategic studies.

In pursuing these objectives, the Euro-Atlantic Council of Slovenia works closely with NATO, the European Union, Slovenian institutions, the academic community, and numerous international partner organisations. Special emphasis is placed on strengthening Euro- and transatlantic cooperation and on addressing regional security challenges in the Western Balkans and the wider Euro-Atlantic area.

Our Activities

In addition to organising conferences, roundtables, and expert discussions, the Euro-Atlantic Council of Slovenia publishes the Euro-Atlantic Bulletin, a content-focused publication featuring expert analyses, commentaries, and policy recommendations on key security issues. The Council also supports the Euro-Atlantic Focus, a periodic information magazine dedicated to in-depth monitoring and education on current security topics and challenges.

Since 2013, the central youth event within the Euro-Atlantic Council has been the international security conference Balkan SAYS – Security Architecture Youth Seminar, organised by the Youth Section. Each year, the conference brings together young professionals, students, researchers, and practitioners in the field of security. It fosters dialogue on security, reconciliation, and cooperation in the Western Balkans and the wider Euro-Atlantic area.

The Euro-Atlantic Council of Slovenia also manages the Situation Room, an ad-hoc analytical platform for monitoring current security developments in selected regions of the world. Within this framework, members of the Youth Section prepare research-based analytical content on international conflicts, security trends, and strategic issues.
